We
currently have Members involved in most disciplines of the
livestock industry, including lambmarking, mulesing, footparing
and footrot eradication (must be accredited), dipping,
ultrasound scanning, etc.
Over
the past few years a good working relationship has been formed
with NSW DPI, WA Department of Agriculture and the NSW Board of
Veterinary Surgeons which has allowed input from Members in
regard to the footrot accreditation scheme and proposed mulesing
regulations.
There
is an increasing trend towards regulation of animal management,
especially regarding animal welfare.
The result of this trend will be – if we don’t
regulate and combine our efforts as one voice via the LCA, we
will be regulated without any of the practical
considerations we livestock contractors can provide.
